Points Rummy is a variation of the 13 Card Indian Rummy game and is a variation of the traditional rummy game that is played for points where the value of each point has been predecided. The player who makes a valid declaration first wins the game. Points are calculated based on the cards that are left in your hand at the end of the game.
In a Points Rummy game, the cards in each suit (spades ♠️, hearts ♥️, diamonds ♦️ and clubs ♣️) rank low to high starting with Ace (A), 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, Jack (J), Queen (Q) and finally King (K). Ace, King, Queen and Jack each hold 10 points. The other remaining cards have value equal to their face value. E.g, 7 will hold 7 points, 9 will hold 9 points and so on.
Points Rummy is played between 2 to 6 players who play for points after pre-deciding the rupee value. The game is played with two standard decks of cards with jokers and the goal is to make two sequences where one pure sequence is mandatory. The remaining cards can be a combination of sequences/sets. The game ends when a player makes a valid declaration and gets a score of zero. The scores of other players are calculated based on the number of unmatched cards.
One of the most important things to remember while playing Points Rummy is that your declaration must always consist of at least two sequences, out of which one has to be a pure sequence. Also, sets cannot have the same card with the same suit twice. E.g: the set of 8♠️-8♠️-8♣️ is invalid as it has two 8♠️.

Here’s how a game of Points Rummy is played:
E.g: Ajay and Bijay are playing a points rummy game. Ajay makes a valid declaration and wins the game. This is how their points will be calculated (2 is the wild joker):
Ajay’s hand:
Since Ajay made a valid declaration, he is the winner of the game. His total points are 0.
Bijay’s hand:
Only points of unmatched cards will be counted. Since Bijay has created one pure sequence, one impure sequence and one set, his total points will be counted from J♠️Q♠️9♦️, which is 10+10+9 = 29 points.

The player who makes a valid declaration will get a score of zero. The losing players will get penalised based on the unmatched cards in their hand.

Since 80 points is the maximum a player can be penalised in a points game, the game is actually being played for ₹80 (80 points x ₹1 per point).
