The Indian men's recurve team on Sunday achieved a historic victory in the
Archery World Cup after 14 years by defeating defending Olympic champions South
Korea. This is the first win for the Indian men's recurve team in a World Cup
final, which will boost their chances of qualifying for the Paris Olympics.
The trio of Dheeraj, Tarundeep and Praveen showed excellent composure and
defeated the strong Korean players without losing a set. Tarundeep, 40, is an
army man and one of the gold medal winners at the fourth Shanghai World Cup in
August 2010. Then the recurve team of Rahul Banerjee, Tarundeep and Jayant had
defeated the Japanese team. In the match between the top two seeded players of
the tournament, India won 5-1 (57-57, 57-55, 55-53). This is India's fifth gold
medal in this World Cup.

After such a brilliant result, the recurve mixed team of Ankita Bhakta and
Dheeraj also increased India's happiness by winning the bronze medal. The Indian
pair defeated Mexican pair Alejandra Valencia and Matias Grande 6-0 (35-31,
38-35, 39-37). Veteran Deepika Kumari failed to produce her best performance in
the women's individual recurve final after taking a break from the competition
following motherhood. He will have to be happy with the silver medal.
The former world number one started the tournament at a very low position after
being seeded 30th. She defeated two Korean players in the quarter-finals and
semi-finals, but lost in the final to Deepika Hangzhou Asian Games in straight
sets 6–0 (26–27, 27–29, 27–28). Conference champion Lin Shixian. Deepika got off
to a bad start in the championship match when her second arrow hit the
seven-point ring.
Lin, a 20-year-old novice archer, won the gold medal after losing just one point
in the second set. India has won eight medals (five gold, two silver and one
bronze) in the global competition. In the men's team final, the Indian team
faced South Korea, both of whose players are gold medalists at the Tokyo
Olympics. Besides gold medalists Kim Woo-jin and Kim Jae-duk, Lee Woo-suk is the
third member of the South Korean team.rummy
The Indian pair showed patience and equalized South Korea's lead by scoring 10
points in the first set. It consists of three targets, each with nine points and
two X's (near the center of the target). In this set both the teams scored 57-57
points. India's brilliant play put the pressure on South Korea, whose archers
hit two eight-pointers. In contrast, the Indian team shot four shots, including
six arrows and three crosses, and scored 10 points, winning the second set 57–55
to go ahead 3–1.
The Korean team's performance further declined in the third set and they could
score only 53 points. Indian archers competed patiently and scored 55 points to
win the men's team title for the first time since 2010. Previously, the women's
team had defeated South Korea twice at the 2013 World Cup, in the third leg in
Medellín in July and the fourth leg in Wrocław in August. Former Commonwealth
Games gold medalist Rahul Banerjee, who was part of the 2010 Shanghai
Olympics-winning team, said: "People always get nervous when South Korea reaches
the final. But now no one doubts our ability to beat them. Can. Ability."
